Poul Skytte Christoffersen
Former Ambassador of Denmark to Belgium; former Permanent Representative of Denmark to the European Union
Poul Skytte Christoffersen is a Danish diplomat with a career-long experience in the EU corridors of Brussels.
From 1977-1980 he was first secretary at the Danish Permanent Representation to the EC. For the next 14 years, he worked as head of cabinet of the Secretary General of the Council of the European Union (1980-1994).From 1995 to 2003 he served as Danish Ambassador to the European Union, and in this capacity was president of the Permanent Representatives Committee and EU Chief negotiator at the level of officials in the final phase of enlargement negotiations in 2002.
In 2003 he was posted to Rome as Denmark's ambassador to Italy and permanent representative to the international food and agriculture organisations based in Rome: the Food and Agriculture Organisation, the World Food Programme (WFP) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development. In 2006 he returned to Brussels as head of cabinet of EU Commissioner for Agriculture Mariann Fischer Boel.
In 2009 he again became ambassador to the EU, a role which he gave up when becoming Special advisor to Baroness Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. Until 2014 he was the Ambassador of Denmark to Belgium. Ambassador Christoffersen has taught at Copenhagen University and the Copenhagen Business School.
