The New Pact for Europe public stakeholders debate gathered 150 participants (politicians, civil servants, NGO-representatives, diplomats, academics and business people) in the premises of the Finnish Parliament on 5th of March, 2014.

The general atmosphere of the event was enthusiastic, and the participants were eager to discuss Europe’s future on the basis of the strategic options offered by the NPE report. The situation in Ukraine was repeatedly raised in the discussion. This launched an intensive debate between the panelists with various party political backgrounds about EU’s ability to speak with one voice in terms of foreign policy. Generally the participants felt that EU’s ability to form common views should be improved.
