The Finnish and Belgian National Reflection Groups met during 2 days in Helsinki to exchange and confront their points of view. This transnational debate aimed to establish where there is agreement and disagreement on the state of the Union, on the key policy challenges and on the key policy proposals. Another aim of this meeting was to understand the state of the Union, demands and trade-offs from the other country’s perspective and thus think “outside of the national box”. The meeting was be moderated by Jacki Davis.

On Thursday 27 October, the Finnish Institute of International Affairs (FIIA) organised a public debate in Helsinki called "The European Union at the crossroads" with the participation of Ambassador Eikka Kosonen, former Permanent Representative of Finland to the EU; Taneli Lahti, Director of the Confederation of Finnish Industries; Jorma Vuorio, Head of Department at the Ministry of the Interior; and Teija Tiilikainen, Director of the Institute of International Affairs.
